Dr. Patricia (Pat) Harned is Founder & Principal of Sightline Strategies. She is also an adjunct professor in the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University.

For 22 years Pat served as Chief Executive Officer of the Ethics & Compliance Initiative (ECI), a prestigious research and membership organization serving the organizational ethics and compliance (E&C) profession. Under Pat’s leadership, ECI became renowned for its longitudinal research gauging global ethics and compliance trends and identifying emerging risks. Pat also led the Blue Ribbon Panel that developed the industry standard for high-quality E&C programs, and she chaired a Blue Ribbon Commission that provided guidance to boards on aligning corporate operations with purpose, values, and a goal to benefit humanity.

While at ECI, Dr. Harned served as principal in the organization’s advisory services, partnering with boards and executives to address compliance lapses, to foster safe speak-up cultures, and to strengthen their commitment to integrity enterprise-wide. Her subject-matter expertise has also been sought by policymakers; Pat has testified before Congress, advised the U.S. Secretary of Defense, and briefed the OSHA Whistleblower Protection Committee on strategies to promote safe employee reporting of operational challenges and other concerns.

Pat has 22 years of board service, serving as a director for the Ethics Resource Center, the Ethics & Compliance Association, the International Association of Independent Monitors, and the U.S. Center for SafeSport.

Today, through Sightline, Pat continues to advise boards and organizational leaders on matters related to organizational purpose, strategy, integrity, and building stakeholder trust. She is currently writing a book which will be published by Columbia University Press.
